Family Literacy 2026
The Family Literacy Initiative (FLI) program begins Year Eleven of this literacy home-based, highly effective multi-generational early childhood program at the beginning of 2026. FLI continues to interact with families in five economically-challenged communities in Liberia: WestPoint, Caldwell, Duazon, Neezoe, and Nyemah. The program works with parents through home visits, giving them the skills, tools, and confidence, they need to become their child’s first teacher. Moreover, it prepares children for success in school and life and also provides opportunity for empowerment, through employment of home visitors from the five communities. Because of a cut-back in funding, especially US AID, WE-CARE will be offering reduced programming. We hope to be able to secure additional funding to change this in the following months and years to come to make this program sustainable.
Together with HIPPY-International, Comic Relief US, and WE-CARE, we are committed to a program that will:
(1) increase parents’ literacy levels along with their children’s, and
(2) have a lasting and sustainable two-generational impact.
