Adult Literacy 2026

Adult Literacy 2026

The Adult Literacy Program (ALP) is a component of our Family Literacy Initiative (FLI). The program began in November 2018 as a pilot project in two communities, Duazon and Caldwell. The major objective of the ALP is to provide parents and caregivers of children in the FLI program with basic literacy and numeracy skills in order to be their child's first teacher at home. Two levels of ALP classes are being implemented: Level 1 for new learners and Level 2 for those who have completed ALP Level 1. ALP has added Level 3 for advanced learners and has 13 participants. Donations from FOL made solar light installation possible so students are able to participate at night after they finishing working. The program has now expanded to include a micro-loans component enabling twenty-five women in five communities to build businesses with a micro-loan of $100 while learning financial literacy skills. The purpose is to increase their literacy skills, as well as their business skills--at the same time saving funds that will enable their children to succeed in public school.
